Onions

When shopping for onions look for plump beauties that are shiny with tissue-thin, smooth skins. They should be firm to touch and the ends (or necks) should be tight and dry. If wet or tender they are not fresh!

These powerhouses are great prebiotics foods that boost the growth of good bacteria in your gut and have extremely high antioxidants levels.

Onions are ‘anti’ in all the best ways; anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral.

Bonus Fact:

Onions have the added bonus of being super low in calories yet yield big flavor to cooked dishes. I add them to soups, salads and stir-frys for a boost of vitamin C, folate, potassium, calcium and iron.
